The Dominican Pillar of Community

While Dominican friars and nuns live within the communities of their convents and monasteries, it is understood that Lay Dominicans’ primary community will be their families.

However, this does not prevent Lay Dominicans from partaking of the rich and diverse Dominican community to which they fully belong.

The Order of Preachers is a worldwide community of friars, nuns, and Laity.

The Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic are divided into provinces at the largest level, which are broken down into regions, and finally into local fraternities which are the central point of communion and engagement for Lay Dominicans.

Our fraternity is the Holy Rosary Fraternity, based in Summit, New Jersey. Individual fraternities typically meet once per month, hold an annual retreat, and host various other opportunities for communal engagement, including faith formation, small groups, and other events aimed at bolstering the sense of community.
