The Holy Rosary at Summit, NJ is a fraternity of lay brothers and sisters (formerly known as Third Order or Tertiaries) of the Order of Saint Dominic. We belong to Region 2 of the Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic, within the Province of Saint Joseph.

A Lay Fraternity of Saint Dominic

Although we are lay members, we form part of the Dominican family - joined by our Friars Preachers of the First Order and our Nuns of the Second Order - living in accordance with the rule of the Lay Fraternities of Saint Dominic.

The ultimate aim is our individual sanctity by the ways prescribed by our founding father, Saint Dominic of Guzman, and the Four Pillars of the Order - Prayer, Study, Community, and Apostolate.

Nourished by the graces of a sacramental life, we as Lay Dominicans, hope to pass on the fruits of living out these Four Pillars to all whom we encounter in our daily life, exemplifying the Dominican motto - Contemplare et contemplata aliis tradere - to contemplate and to give to others the fruits of contemplation” - St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Code of Canon Law identifies the lay fraternities as:

An association whose members lead an apostolic life and strive for Christian perfection while living in the world and who share the spirit of some religious institute under the higher direction of the same institute.”

— canon 303
